If you fit a bigger turbo then the lag will get worse as it take a fraction longer for the turbo to spool up. A hybrid might help, look on Andy forrests website. I had similar when I fitted a FMIC to my bugeye but got used to it. After 9 years driving the car I don't notice it unless I fluff a gear change.

Yes, get it mapped. You cannot fit a front mount intercooler and then complain about lag when you have not had it mapped and if you do some research you will find there are plenty people on here who have fitted Hybrid front mount intercoolers which are tube and fin and their experience has been no noticable lag whatsoever after mapping.
If you fit a bar and plate intercooler then you may experience some lag particulary on poorly designed systems.

What turbo are you using?
A further consideration may be headers and uppipe where good improvements can be made but as your car has not been mapped you do not really know the true situation.
Do not give it the beans until it is remapped or it could end in tears.
Come back if I can help further.
We can fit a Simtek 16/17 July and map if you wish.

not sure on the make of the front mount. had it pressure tested and they said there was no leaks on the core but it is second hand so in your eyes that's probably wrong im guessing. trying to keep the cost down. not that flush lately but still need advice. its a stock turbo so i think its a vf22 but like i said not got the knowledge wish i did.
thanks.

Nothing wrong with second hand but for best performance it is important to get tube and fin.
