Hi, That noise that you have is the rear shocks, it;s extremely common on the new age STI, mine dose the same and so do others that I know, It can be cured at some expense, either a shock strip down/rebuild or replace them with new ones. Most guys go for coilovers as an alternative as they have loads of adjustment etc.

My 53 Sti had the knocking too only really noticed it setting off and slowly driving on rough roads. It still passed its mot. I took them off this weekend and stripped them, cleared out the old grease and re greased them following the guide on scoobypedia. The car sounds great now and the clunk/knock has gone. Not sure on long term success yet.

Car still feels kangaroo like when coming to a stop but all shocks seem OK and it passed its mot!?
