hi,its water cooled and oil fed for the turbo bearing lubrication. water is fed from the water pump through the turbo side head and through the td05 back to the header tank hope this helps.

The turbo is actually oil cooled during normal operation. The reason you want a turbo cooled is to prevent oil coking on the bearings, and that is achieved by having adequate oil circulation.

The water cooling is only needed if you shut down the engine shortly after boosting, in which case the coolant boiling in the turbo helps to cool it, this is another reason why turbo timers are not necessary for the water cooled turbos.

I have seen threads where people remove the water coolant lines without adverse consequences as long as they remember to follow proper turbo cool down procedure.
