Panel filter or induction kit?
Hey all,
I'm new here, but have had a hunt and a search through the forums and can't seem to find a thread that answers whether a panel filter or induction kit would be better for my 99 uk2000?
I am guessing it depends on how many mods you have etc?
Well mine has an exhaust and has been remapped apparently (fitting boost gauge in the next couple of week to see if it actually has tho!)
Thanks guys n gals
Carl

If it's an inner wing one with a cold air feed you're okay although as already mentioned you probably won't see huge gains unless you have modded the car a fair bit.
If it's one that sits in the engine bay itself like the HKS or some K&N ones, and no cold air feed, then it will most likely be sucking in hot air as it's right next to the turbo - not really a good thing - and you should go back to the original box. HTH.

When I bought my 05 Jdm Sti it had a in wing induction kit fitted. I noticed that the idle tickover was low, almost stalling sometimes. I reverted back to the standard air box with K+N panel filter and all is fine now. Steve.

Another vote here for green cotton, especially good for the my99's weak maf. Been running them on mine for the last 4 years without a problem.
EDIT: Just to ad my98 sti 4 also has a green cotton and airbox baffle delete and it sounds meaty as well.

99-00 is best to run panel filter to around 350 bhp and there is nothing wrong with the OE Subaru panel filter. You will not get any more power from a K+N etc. and the cause for using one of these is that they are able to be cleaned and reused so if you keep the car over a period of time you can clean your air filter every 3000 to 5000 miles.
Dolomite: If you fit a CAK you MUST get your car remapped or as a minimum the MAF sensor has to be rescaled. Failure to do this could result in picking a piston up in the bore.
I rather suspect not. Why not clarify it with Japspeed themselves and report back rather than surmise.

Im sure ed@ japspeed said you could. in the group buys section because someone asked.

Thanks for advice Harvey, I went from a under wing CAK to a standard airbox with a K+N panel filter, and had it remapped at the same time. The under wing CAK was fitted before I owned the car and this was also remapped. Steve.
