engine off
drains system.
leave all caps off(if newage)
heater control to full
remove the pipe from metal header tank going to turbo
and refill through the pipe so the water goes into the turbo and not the header tank
soon as water comes up to the top of header tank refit pipe and cap and start it up
it fills the system from the bottom up so pushes all the air out never get air lock this way.

yes same method for all except on newage there is a rad cap on radiator too so on these you remove both and when water level comes up to radiator you refit cap then add more water till metal header tank fills.

it can help if you wish on your rad remove the little hose on drivers side till water comes out ,refit and fill till metal header tank is full if you wish.

just to add use a funnel wedge in that turbo pipe to refill makes life alot easier lol

yes still fill by turbo but while refilling remove that little pipe untill water comes out top of rad then refit if you wish
air locks are a pain thats why sometimes best to start again.

by above method its virtually impossible to air lock unlike standard filling way,i done loads this way and never had air lock

Yep, most specialists use the above method. I watched Tim at Zen do it back in 2007 when servicing my previous WRX. Interesting stuff.

Don't forget to pre-mix enough coolant/water in a container big enough, so that you always have a visible well of coolant in the funnel (via uninterrupted filling), and thus not unwittingly introduce any air...
