Default Initial mods!!!

Hi...newbie owner of 2007 wrx wagon here. It is absolutely bog standard just now and i am looking for some fairly basic first mods. Car Planet in warrington are going to fit a ss cat back exhaust, but when I mentioned a cold air induction kit, they said no need, just go for an HKS 'mushroom' filter. 3 questions I guess...one, is that the best option?, 2...I have read on here that a performance panel filter is all you need, is that correct?, and 3, is any change to the air induction going to have any detrimental effects on the AFR??...thanks in advance

Ok, so I take it from that i should not change the air filter without a re-map to suit...is that correct??

a better replacement panel filter should be ok. you need to keep the air/fuel ratio the same or there abouts. altering this will necessitate a remap to take account of the new values. failure to do so can lead to problems and perhaps engine failure due to detonation. a good subaru tecnician should be able to stick a wide band lamba on your car and check if the afr is ok.

If you are after a rolling road check and map. Steve Simpson at TEG Sport in Carnforth is good. He as looked after my bugeye STi since 2004 and is currently at 441 bhp with 103K miles on original engine build.

Thanks for that 360. Having thought about this overnight, there must be plenty of people on this forum who have added performance panel filters to Newage WRXs without problems. After all, surely all the standard cars are set up the same so if OK on one then ok on all. (as regards AFR I mean). So, is there a panel filter that is recommended??

don't fall into the trap, you can get two differing results from the same mods, which is the very reason you want to stay away from generic maps

Thanks Tidgy. I am getting somewhat confused...getting differing views on things. Cold air induction....no cold air induction.....I am wanting mods but not sure what to do...I have seen this package (see link below)...
has anybody had this package and is it good value?? (please note, cold air induction!!!)

http://www.scoobyteknixuk.com/perfor...gesnewage.html

Another confusing message....normal 95 unleaded advised by some, 97 v-power by others!!

Hi there how much you are looking spend and how much bhp you want?
Because these packages are little bit expensive in my view.

Here is few upgrades stages for wrx

Stage 1: Uprated panel filter(£35),decated exhaust with decated up pipe(Cobra exhaust or Japspeed for around £399),Walbro 255(from £69),3 port boost solenoid(from around £60) and custom OS remap(from £225-£350) you should have around 270-280bhp

Stage 2: all above, plus one from these turbos VF30(from £280),VF34(from £395),VF35(from 250£),550cc injectors(your WRX have same injectors as STI) and you should have from 320-350bhp

Thanks for that Jura...informative.
2 more questions...sorry....if you decat, do you have to re-cat before an MOT???......and insurance is expensive even with standard wrx...what are peoples experiences when all these mods are declared???..I presume peolpe do declare or else the insurance would be nullified in case of an accident and subsequent engineers report. (maybe I am being too honest and boring!!)
