hey guys..
i have just purchased a bugeye 2.0gx.
im thinking to do a wrx or turbo conversion.
is this possable?
its a very clean example and have always wanted to try this.

anything is possible buddy but its all down to the cost, i would think that it would be cheaper buying a bugeye wrx, i have a bugeye wrx and paid top dollar for it but you can get them for £3000 poss cheaper if you shop about. but i suppose you only need the complete engine, gear box ( poss rear diff etc ), ECU, Intercooler, bonnet and scoop ( or go front mount ).

not done it before but at a guess its going to be a big job unless you can get a very cheap damage repairable complete car.

good luck m8

Your going to have to replace the entire car, diffs, gearbox, engine, clutch, brakes, exhaust, wiring loom etc, its not worth the time and effort of sourcing the parts, adding them to the car, getting the car re insured with those modifications (higher than a normal car normally), its just cheaper to buy a wrx straight away.

as has been said cost is prohibitive. if it was just dropping in a ej20 engine it would be a good project if you were handy with a spanner. its not like throwing a red top in a corsa.

Default Hi

I think the gx gearbox can be used with the turbo engine but not sure how long it will last with nearly double the power to handle, ive read online somewhere that the gx box is just as strong as wrx box but whether that is true or not i dont know.

No, the GX gearbox is totally different to a wrx gearbox, its not as strong and wouldnt take that sort of power hence why you have to change the gearbox and diff (though changing the full rear diff/axle helps with putting the 2 pots on the car )

Default Hi

Tony it was some bloke in the USA who drag raced a classic, I remember him saying that he had tried lots of Subaru standard gearboxes N/a and turbo five speeders and they all take around the same amount of time to break on the strip, I tried to find the artical to show you but I couldn't find it oh well he could be full of it, but he did seem to know his stuff.

mate i posted something very similar bout 6 months ago cos i fell in love with a black gx id bought i but alot of time and effort into researching what i used to do the conversion it worked out silly money and pointless as i could buy one for alot less than it would cost to build one, im not sure if you was planning to do this ur self or pay but without the labour i worked out round 3k in parts you may be lucky to drop on a donor car but its just more cost efftive to buy a turbo. you may find as i did if you go for uk spec classic the insurance is less as mine was 400 per year to be honest
