UK classic's have 1 cat in the downpipe. the middle box is just a silencer - thou its seemingly referenced as a CAT by most!

No, UK cars have 2 (except the P1 and 22B type UK of course) in classics, the 2nd cat is actually a cat in the centre section, with the addition of the PPP this cat is removed and replaced with a baffled centre section, unless this is what you mean?

ive replaced the std centre section on my car to replace with a straight through centre section. it is not a cat. and thats a UK turbo

its not a cat - they wouldnt make a 3ft long exhaust section if there was a cat in it. its a silencer

Its a cat, i had my car from new (MY00), I had the PPP fitted, they gave me back the entire exhaust system (Prodrive), its got a cat in it.
Also you dont need a heat sink over a baffled centre section, you do with a cat (it was a common issue with them rattling).

UK/EU cars had 2 to pass the emissions, JDM's just had the one, chances are your centre section was replaced by a JDM centre section, lots of people did it
