Default Low Fuel Warning Light

Wondered if anyone can shed any ( pardon the pun ) light on this !!!!
I have an MY98 uk turbo 2000 and for a while the low fuel warning light on the dash has not been working, but yesterday it came on briefly then faded off, i know there is a problem with it and obviously it is not the lamp itself behind the clocks, i have also had a general running issue lately in respect of a hesitation or pulsing at low revs eg: say between 2300-3700 revs where if i am say cruising anywhere between those revs the car seems to be pulsing the power, if you put your foot on the loud pedal the car pulls away as it should turbo kicks in and boost seems normal.

I wondered if there was an electrical fault somewhere, and the two problems were related. The cel light does not illuminate and i have checked for fault codes on the ecu but all clear, i have also reset the ecu which is an 8s. I don't want to start ripping the car apart trying to find it, not knowing where to start.

Is the car modified in any way?
How low are you running the fuel down? The light won't come on till you have about 8-10ltrs left.

Tony

car used to be modified including a walbro fuel pump, but now car is back to standard, i have changed the fuel pump back over to the origional standard, have run it very low on a couple of occasions to test for the light coming on and it doesn't come on apart from yesterday, so it seems to be intermittant hence me thinking along the lines of an electrical fault eg loose connection somewhere, i have taken the clocks out of dash and made sure all wiring looms are plugged in properly

My rb5 which is a my99 doesn't appear to have a fuel warning light unless I'm too chicken to run it down low enough for it to come on?
