Ive read that plugs on a 2006/2007 hawkeye STI or WRX are changed every 24 months or 30k miles. Is this correct? I've recently had my 30k service done by the Subaru dealer prior to them selling me the car so wondered if that included the plugs. Some people have said it wouldn't have and the service interval for plugs change is longer. I can't find any definitive info on this on what the Subaru interval is. I know it's a big job though.

Correct mate every 30000 miles, Its not a big job I watched mine being done, they remove the air box on the right and fiddle about on the left If its been done at a main dealer you should have receipts with the service info if not you could contact the dealer who will have records of whats been done (or not).

 

If you are in doubt about the plugs and given the hesitation problems youve had ( in other posts ) I would look to be changing the spark plugs. At least then you know that they are good, the dealer may have not done them or may have fitted inferior items or with the plug gap set wrong. Both of these could cause running issues.

Yes, same here. I looked yesterday and just found out Subaru's service interval for a plug change is 6 years (72 months) or 60000 miles! Surely that is too long!!? How much do most specialists charge to change plugs?

 

Anyone had this done recently? Is it around £200-300, or less? And what is the most recommended type of plugs to go for to achieve the best performance and longetivity? I assume NGK but what type? Thanks again.

 

You wanna change the plugs to colder ones anyway should really be done before the remap to avoid any spark issues.

Thanks. Are dodgy spark plugs (or plugs on their way out) likely to cause intermittent hesitation issues when car is cold? My cars done just over 30k miles and never had them done.

How long labourwise are a plug change? I need my cambelt done soon too so was thinking it might be easier to get this done at same time if it's not much extra labour. Thanks again.

 

Dodgy or tired plugs may well cause hesitation issues especially when cold as this is when the mixture is most difficult to ignite.

I changed mine myself and took about an hour.

Having them done at the same time as a cambelt makes good sense.

 

although it does state in the service book same as yours (72 months 60k) ive recently had mine replaced whilst carring out the 48 month/40k. my MY07 has covered 28k although is now 4 years old. iirc the service and plug change was £200-250. i did have other work carryed out at the same time so dont know the exact price. not sure on the make of plugs either!!

service manual states cambelt to be changed at 60 months/50k although going by the plugs interval, the cambelt could also be wrong!!!

 

Thanks. I've been quoted £200 for a cambelt change at a specialist which I thought was quite good as Im sure a main dealer quotes double this. I'm hoping the plug change can be done at the same time, to save labour costs but depends on which parts need to be removed to gain access.
