Default REVS KEEP DROPPING

Hi guys/girls I'm having a bit of a problem with my WRX 2002 wagoon. The problem is when i'm driving along at a normal speed and the accelerate quickly my car drops in revs by around 500-1000 rpm and dosnt gain speed then they go up very quickly and the car shots off. Is this normal (which I don't think it is as I have had the car for 3 years and have never noticed this until about 3 months ago). I am not no machanic by it seems the clucth is slipping. The reason I say this is because when accelerating and this happens this is what it seems like it's as if I have dipped the clucth.

Has anyone ever had this problem? And if so what was done to solve it and if not do you any any advice to what the problem could be.

MANY THANKS

Martin.

Try putting it in 5th gear and accelerate up a steep hill, to see if you can manufacture the problem

sounds like clutch slippage from your description
