hi,
i have found a water leak from the water pump on my 95 sti, there is a hole in the back of the water pump and its leaking water, can anyone tell me why its started leaking from it?
i have circled the hole in the pic, any help would be great,

Thats what i call the "tell-tale hole" if its leaking from there normally the seals are FUBAR'D if the second pump is doing the same then i reckon its one of two things,
Either the second pump is also faulty or the coooling system is pressurising up (possibly with compression gasses) pushing the coolant past the seal, one of the weakest spots!

that makes good sense but the thing is, it leaks when i fill the system up from the header tank, ive not even starting the engine yet, i took the second pump off an engine that was ok too, i am now very confused?
how do you change the seals?
can i just tap a bolt in the hole to stop it?

It would probably work, for a extremely short time, but highly un-reconmmended
For the price of a new water pump (and gaskets) it is not worth the risk or time spent trying to change them
(Also looking at the pics it was extremely short of anti-freeze!!!)

thanks for the help, ive bought a new one now, i took the pumps internal wheels off and saw the seal, it had a massive gap in it, no wonder it leaked,
why would the spare pump seals leak though? do they shrink when they dry out, or go hard when dry and brake up? because when i took the engine out (6 months ago) with the other pump on it, it was fine, now ive fitted it to this one, it leakes.
