Driving home last night on the motorway i noticed when i gave it some beans and hit 5000 RPM the engine management light was flashing so i checked my boost controller and that was ok hitting 1.4 bar so i backed off and cruised the car home. Now that the first time its done this could this be down to bad fuel. I only run v power and the ecu is simtek mapped to run at 1.4 bar of boost?

 

Isn't the flashing ECU part of SIMTEK showing that it has picked up DET? Sure I read that somewhere.

 

As Shaun said that would be indicating possible detonation.

That's one possible reason, but it can be caused by a number of other things as well. This is assuming it is actually registering DET correctly.

 

Flashing CEL on simtek is det warning.Constant light is shift light.Have you had the 2nd map set up as "low octane fuel map"? If so then switch to this map and see if flashing goes away.If it does then probably bad fuel - but could be other factors that could cause det (low fuel pressure/lean AFR/etc).Would anyway advise getting in touch with your mapper..
