there are two connectors under the dash that you join together... or leave the battery disconnected overnight..

You can't do this, as you have to turn the engine off after the reset has taken place ("Check Engine" flashes). It might stop if you remove the connections - I haven't tried it with it on, and wouldn't really recommend it...

to reset the ecu
you join the 2 black and the 2 green connectors together
start car and drive steadily till the check engine light comes on
then stop and turn car off and disconnect both pairs of leads
now give it a good thrashing

well say for instance youve been running on unleaded
and you suddenly change to optimax
then i always do a reset, cos the ecu will set itself up to that fule, and retarded air intake n **** like that, so i always reset on every fill-up

yes m8
straight away
try it
run ur car on unleaded for a full tank, but reset the ecu once you fill up.
then when your ready for a fill up
put optimax in and do an ecu reset
or just use whatever type fuel you use, and do the ecu reset

if you do it that often then I dont see why you couldnt put a push to make switch in line.. and hold it down to do the reset.. Have to be double pole though... wouldnt recommend pressing it whilst driving though...

My five pence worth,
connecting the two pairs of connectors puts the ECU into a form of self test mode which in turn clears the temporary memory of gathered data (ignition, boost and fueling) for safe and in theory efficient running, ie. reset's everything to manufacturers defaults.
So connect both connector pairs (directly under the steering column), depress the accelerator pedal fully, release, then start the engine. After a period of time the check engine light will flash equally on and off signalling all has checked out OK.
Stop engine and disconnect the connectors. No change, then you had no 'de-tuning' data stored, some change ie. better pick-up etc. then you had some ignition retard due to knocking (running on unleaded, too much boost etc.!)

Technically I can't see why not (anyone with first hand knowledge please feel free to correct this - Stephen@Ecutek?).
It would however need to be done when everthing is steady state and preferably off boost (ie. no load).
