Question Front mount and ssqv?

Thinking of buying a fmic for my00 classic Uk. I read somewhere that I'd have to have an induction kit to fit one as the pipework wouldn't fit otherwise. Is this right as I didn't really want to use an induction kit due to my00 crap maf. Also I have an hks ssqv dump valve at the moment how would I go about fitting that would I need anything else??

Thanks

i believe you will need an induction kit as the piping from FMIC will foul the air box?

also you might need an adaptor or new valve, i know with mine i have an APS FMIC and the aps valve is like on a pipe which sticks out which came with the valve.

Yes you cannot run an airbox with an fmic due to the way the pipework runs and to fit the ssqv you will need an adaptor that fits on to the pipework, can be purchased from Harvey Smith.

Anyone think that I'll be ok with an induction kit on my00 Uk? I've heard that the real problem lies with loose fitting induction kits damaging mafs rather than the maf itself being rubbish?

Suppose I should just stick with my Sti top mount idea and panel filter, just liked the idea of fmic cosmetically! Realistically I'm not gonna be looking at going over 340bhpish tops.

The problem with Induction kits is if the air filter is the oiled type. Apparantly the oil from the filter gets sucked into the inlet tract and coats the MAF sensor wire and changes the readings it gets and therefore changes the fuel/air mixture.

If you fit the FMIC and induction kit you should get the car mapped to make sure the fuel/air mixture is changed to suit the different amount of air and cooler air from the FMIC.

Not sure whether your car is mappable or if you need a different ECU?

Yeah it's mappable by ecutek, it's currently having a rebuild at thwaites, should be getting it back tomorrow or Monday, so will be getting it mapped when I've worn it in. So u think I should be ok if I get a dry filter? Any reccomendations?

Apexi is the best dry filter and I would secure it properly as vibration and movement is what kills the maf.

If it is mapable by ecutek can it run Mafless? Then you can run whatever filter you want and never have to worry about the flaky MAF .

EcuTeK defo needs the MAF.

I have a MY99 STi 5 and a FMIC and the cone filter is just bolted to the end of the MAF and hanging free . But it does sit under the FMIC's hard pipe. So it's actually resting against the engine bay's bodywork - rather than being suspended in the air by the MAF - and therefore is less 'stressful' for the MAF, re. vibrations.

Seems to be working fine. But I suppose it could fail (if vibrations can cause it to)....???
