Default Crank or Cam sensor disconnection ?

Hi all,

Been reading many a thread (and debates !) on here regarding oil changes & disconnecting the Crank sensor before restarting.

I done my oil change the weekend & due my fat hands and chubby fingers I couldn't unclip the connector from the Crank sensor ! So, I disconnected the Cam sensor

So, hence the title - why does all the threads say disconnect the Crank when the Cam is a lot easier to get to ? (I have a Classic)

Or, have I made a mistake by doing that ?!?

I think the crank is done because it stops both fuel and spark

Where as the cam only stops the spark so you fill your bores with fuel.

I may be wrong but im sure someone will help.

Perhaps someone could be kind enough to explain the logic of this for me. If you go on holiday for a week, do you disconnect the sensor before starting the car...I doubt it.... although the oil will have had a week to drain back into the sump.
Surely as long as you fill the filter before fitting there is no difference?

You have a point but even though the filter is or should be filled with oil the galleys and such leading to it that would not normally drain would have done when removing the filter, Another problem is some people are not patient enough and think it only takes 30 seconds and one pour of oil to fill a filter when in reality it can take quite a while as it absorbs into the filter, Cranking the engine without starting is safer than not at the end of the day and with Subaru engines being as fussy as they are it is something I shall carry on doing Probably is overkill but a few more minutes of your time is certainly cheaper than a rebuild

Disconnecting crank and cam sensor yields the same result, no spark or fuel. I always disconnect the cam sensor instead since it's much easier to get to.

Cheers guys,

It was just my mind going into over-drive with the thought of perhaps doing something wrong & couldn't work out why ev.one says disconnect the crank rather than the easier cam sensor !
