Hi there
everything depend on how much miles and if its need refresh, but i would say for piece of mind go for 2.1 stroker(in these times are good priced)
About your modifications:
SC46(great turbo for STI and really fast spooling)
740cc-850cc Injectors and you will don't need FPR
Aquamist i would say,you are this don't need either
GT-Spec headers will be mine choice(beware before Japspeed, these are really bad and will easy crack)
3-port boost solenoid will be great
FMIC Japspeed is good priced and if its your budget allow Hybrid will be better choice

Why not phone a couple of respected tuning companies and ask their opinion? If you tell them what you've got and what you want to achieve I'm sure that you would get some "proper" advice

First things first what do you want to achieve? Fast road, drag racer, hill climb, track car? How much power do you want? But most importantly how much do want to spend? It gives us a better idea of how to advise you. Give us a ball park figure and don't be embarrassed.

400 is easily achievable on newage motor for a pretty reasonable cost. A genuine 400 hp car is a pretty sharp car. You can use your block but I would be forging the internals. Engine tuner do a nice stoker kit for good money. martyn should let you know what you need.

For arguments sake would you be happy with 400 though? The answer to that question could save you a lot of potential cash, depending on what you want and how much reliability you are *aiming* for.

Is the JDM bottom end stock, how many miles on it and is it currently running fine.

Agree with Shaun. If you're happy @ 400Bhp then there's not much point in looking to forge the engine or go for a stroker etc etc. If in the long term you think you will want more (Which I guarantee you will) then MAYBE that's the way to go.

I'd maybe think about going for a 2.1 or even a 2.35 (From a 2.2 block) stoker long term, but mine is very happy @ 420ish Bhp on the standard internals at present.

I'd look at
800cc Injectors
GT Spec or maybe Perrin Headers (My choice)
Harvey Up pipe matched to the SC46
RCM Induction or if your choice of FMIC would allow a 70mm APS CAI (with a custom extension hose which will allow the filter size to be increased and sit lower behind the foglight cover) Which I'll be selling as my Perrin FMIC won't fit with it in place
Cold air feed through foglight cover
3 Port Solenoid
ECU. Your choice the Standard will run up to 1.65 Bar with the OEM map sensor. Long term Syvecs would get my choice
@ 400Bhp the OEM STi TMIC is fine, no real need to swap to a FMIC
NGK PFR7B plugs
Maybe a set of Phenolic Inlet manifold spacers
Catch can

Probably more but that's all my brain will think of at present

If its strictly a road car and you will be keeping it, I would go for a forged 2.5 with an MD321T and the usual supporting mods. Will make a nice 450/450 and makes for an awesome point to point car!

Cheers for the PM dude,

If your motor has been well kept and low miles (sub 50k at a guess) id be inclined to keep the motor stock. If not then id go closed deck 2.1 as theyre cheap and as bombproof as youre going to get.

To that i would add the following to your list.

GTspec Gen 2 headers+uppipe
3 port boost solenoid
800cc injectors Laterals are good (Injector Dynamics ID1000 if it were my choice)
Parallel fuel setup if going above 450/450 ideally
3" inlet pipe to support the SC46
10mm manifold spacers to allow max clearance for turbo inlet
Good inner wing intake (Hyperflow would be my choice + cold feed from foglamp)
Personally id opt for a quality FMIC at this level although the STI TMIC will cope to 400+
Colder plugs (Mappers choice)
Remap of your choice although Syvecs if you can afford it will get the best out of it by miles.

This is a start and there will be bits and bobs along teh way but id decide who you want to map it and have a good chat with them. They wont steer you wrong.

Plenty of options as everyone has said.

2 litre stock engine and an SC46 Billet turbo are an awesome combo, 2.1 stroker and SC46 is even better and the 2.5 with AVCS and an SC46 is ballistic. Mapped an RB320 with one today and it made 450/450 on Vpower and 500/500 on a meth mix.

Assuming you stick with the stock engine, on top of what you already have I would advise the following, injectors 650cc, RCM headers and Harvey Smith uppipe, Turbosmart 3 port, not a fan of Aquamist kits, I prefer to pop some meth in the tank when filling up, swap the plastic under manifold intake pipe with a silicone replacement Perrin or similar and get a good map.
That little lot should see you hit your 400bhp target fairly easily.

Thanks for your pm asking my opinion, pretty much covered by all above.

The standard headers, intercooler and injectors shoukd in theory see you close to 375bhp (done a couple recently to that level) and make a nice road car, e5 is not disimilar to shell 99.
I happen to be over mapping in dublin today and tomorrow and a few cars using e5 fuel.

Depending on your budget add injectors and headers and front mOunt intercooler.

Also 3inch exhaust if not already running one.

I would give the standard engine a health check - compression / leak down test and of okay stick with it. Just new plugs etc

Simon

Ahhh Simon, mapping on St Paddy's day in Dublin? Coincidence? Or was the pull of a decent pint of Guinness too much

dont need the oil cooler or uprated oil pump. oil catch can? do you mean a oil breather system or complete dry sump system? what sort of cylinder heads, cams and head gaskets are you going for? are you going to do the brakes and suspension?

uk or jap 6 speed is more than capable of handling the power. the oem clutch on the other hand, well on a genuine 400/400 it won't last too long.
