Default bit of an issue with my car

last night i was out in my 2003 wrx,i was in 3rd gear at about 6000rpm changed into fourth and planted my foot and all i got was a big hiss from under the bonnet almost sounds like a horse neighing (according to my missus) so eased off,if i am not on boost it does not do it but the moment i hit the slightest bit of boost it does it again,i have took all the intercooler off and checked all the boost pipes and cant seem to find anything a miss, does anybody have any ideas as to what the problem could be as i am now stumped
