Default timing belt change probz - advice needed

hello all

just got myself a JDM V3 STI wagon about 2 weeks ago (first scooby), belt was due a change so i got myself a an Aftermarket Timing Belt Kit from flat 4 online, stripped off everything and found the belt tenssioner to be the wrong type, mine is the type where the pulley pivits on a bolt and the piston is secured by 2 bolts, the one that was in the kit is the type where the whole assembly pivits on the 1 bolt. so im gonna have to send the tenssioner back to get the correct one sent out so i can change the belt.
that wasnt my main problem, when i aligned all the cam/crank pulleys the righthand exhaust pulley (bottom right) was advanced by approx 1 tooth when all the other pulleys were aligned perfectly - im presuming that this is not normal ??? there are no abnormal running characteristics that im aware of. has anyone encountered this before, should i correct the missaligned pulley or leave it as it was found ??

any help is much appriciated

the pic is of how much the right exhaust/bottom right is out by when all the rest are aligned and the type of tenssioner i have

cheers

Finlay

Hi there
Did you have the belt with the timming lines on it??
I have noticed slight mis-alignment but dont recall it that much. I wouldnt run it might have chance of catching the valves.

With little experience they do seem a right pig to get the to RH/pas side pulleys to line up good.

Always use a Gates or OE belt, it is worth the extra. The following link may help you.

edit: Best of luck getting the tensioner swapped with Flat4. IMHO you where lucky to get the kit from them in the first place.

id align it all as it should be, then turn it over by hand carefully and see whether theres any interference.
