If the oil appears to be leaking from the rear of the sump, cheak the rear oil separator cover isn't leaking (back of the engine) - most leaks from the rear of the sump turn out to be from there.
Its sealed on with automotive grade RTV silcone sealant.

99 quid from RCM but 71 is around the price it should cost, its worth doing just for the fact you know its not damaged and you wont have to take it off again, also worth replacing the oil pump at the same time, the original is still in yours?

this could get expensive for you ,change this change that lol,if its not broke dont change it lol. add to the fact you will need to do oil change too.
if your sump is in good condition reuse if rusted bad yeah change it.
intercooler off (if top mount)
gearbox/bulkhead mount off
jack car up and secure
undo engine mounts jack up via front of gearbox just so you can get your hands to the back bolts.
undo and give sump a pull and wiggle and remove
clean up in petrol/few tins of brake cleaner
and refit.
important remember to remove dip stick and drain oil lol

Its called "preventative maintenance" but I would replace the sump as its probably been on there years and refreshing the oil pump whilst the sump is off is always a good idea, cheaper than an engine rebuild

I am inclined to agree with Tony as to the sump. The sump on this car has quite a bit of rust on it, I would like to replace, but I am thinking since it is a tight budget it might be better to get this out the car, clean it up as best we can and get some heat resistant pant (maybe even hammerite) and re-paint it and seal it up properly to protect it till money is available to buy a new one. This might be worth doing regardless to be honest.. But at the moment it doesn't look urgent, just something for the 'watch list' perhaps?
It does look like it's leaking at the back of the sump though tucked up near the rear of the engine so it could well be that the oil is coming from somewhere else and just showing up there. It's cleaned it up as much as possible for now, my view was to reassess this in a few weeks and see what it looks like then. Might be able to pin point a bit more accurately where it's coming from. At the moment it doesn't appear to be losing oil quickly.
If it means removal of the flywheel to fix this other seal, it sounds like it might be more practical to wait till the clutch needs doing and replace this seal then?
Thoughts?
