Default High fuel consumption on a Turbo2000 Impreza, help

Hey guys, mpg is 8-10 on my Turbo2000 Impreza. Is that normal for a city driving? I thought it was more like 20 mpg.
Where could be the problem? What is your imprezas consumption?

8-10 sounds shocking for a standard car. i get 24-28 mpg from my 95 import(standard 260 ps, no mods) or about 240-270 to a tank(50ltr)

A faulty lambda sensor would result in excessive fuel consumption off boost.

I think on classics you use a 12v bulb and plug it to a couple of wires under the dash, you then see how many times it flashes and that tells you the fault,i think theres a thread on it in the search

Look under your dash on the drivers side you should see two green and two black connectors, (they maybe taped up) and then follow this guide

for MPG work out miles per litre and divide by 0.22 = MPG

The first mapper to come up with a good reliable economy map will make a killing.
My std WR1 managed 29mpg when driven on motorway and off boost, did it for a week to see what it could achieve, it was hell. Normally 21ish on motorway but easily drops to 16 mpg or less running around and on 'B' roads.

I find it hard to believe in these days of modern technology the car doesn't lean out the AFR etc on steady runs for higher mpg on part boost at say 80mph and still be able to respond quickly to protect the engine when you accelerate. Is the ECU/mapping system just too crude?

As I understand it the ECU is constantly monitoring and updating itself to provide max ign advance/AFR etc but only within the boundaries allowed by its 'generic map'. So even if you don't manually reset it it will learn the best configuration for your driving style. Can you have your cake and eat it with a remap ie better economy cruising and good power when booting it?

Ok then. A lazy 0xygen sensor can cause higher fuel consumption without creating a fault as its still giving a reading. Hows it driving? Any hesitation on light throttle upto 3000rpm?

are you at a cruising speed when it occurs? is it a slight hesitation or more of a misfire?

While im driving normally and when im going to accelerate on 2nd , at this 2500 rpms i get a "pause" just for a sec. It doesnt accelerate for a second. I've seen this only on 2nd gear. More like a hesitation
