car wont start

Default car wont start

a mate has let his scoob run outta fuel. filled it up and it wont start, now my mate spoke to someone and they said it the coilpack that at fault. would this fail if it was run dry of petrol. it a 1996 wrx

There's a good chance the sock on the fuel pump has clogged after sucking all the crap and at the bottom of the tank. Wouldn't be the first thing I'd check but even still it's a quick enough job to whip the pump out and check/clean for peace of mind.

I think it will just rinse out with warm water, wouldn't have thought detergents were a good idea if that's what you mean?

one other thing would there be a sign if it was just dirt pulled through the sock on the fuel pump

its very likely you will see its not right,give it a clean+put it back in[make sure its dry],
i would advise you prime the fuel line by turning ignition lights on for 5 secs then off for 30 secs,then back on for five secs,do this half a dozen times to hopefully fill your fuel lines.
if no joy unplug the fuel filter/then put it back on in case of an air lock,
