Default intercooler question

Ok guys don't take the p@@s but, I know air passes through in both directions inside and out but I just can't get my head round how it cools the air inside.
Correct me if I'm wrong, air from the bonet scoop passes through the vertical fins which are attached to the rods which you see from the top.
The rods have fins inside horizontal which the internal air passes through to cool it down, I take it that all the fins are welded in or just touch the sides and it all works by disipitation sorry if terminology is wrong..

The cool air coming through the scoop down through the 'intercooler' cools the air which is in the tubes (matrix) after it has been through the turbo.

Allows you to get more air into the pistons as it is cooler and therefore more dense.

Works just like any heat exchanger.

I some pics somewhere if you want some.

So the fins between the matrix disapate the heat inside to the air passing through, so if some of the fins are snapped it wouldn't cause a leak

From what I have seen in the past the small metal fins shouldn't cause a leak unless they have done damage to the pipes within the area.

Unless you have had something large come through or heavy and it has damaged it they are normally ok.
