its a cheap fix compared to cam belt snapping and killing the engine.

Simple fix, just find out what was rubbing the belt before you put a new one on.

It's a lot better than the cambelt snapping. Just get a new alternator belt, should take 10 mins to change, job done

£9 for a new belt, just brought one myself today just get replaced or it wont charge your alternator which equals flat battery.

Cambelt is actually behind the covers underneath the alternator at the front of the engine.

your cambelt should be hidden behind the plastic cambelt covers.

The camblet is just behind the radiator, hidden. It has a plastic cover over it. where your crank is. when u look down your engine near the rad ull see a plastic cover underneath is your cambelt.

Does your car have aircon? The small pulley at the top is the alternator, on the right is the aircon pump & on the left is the power steering pump.

just a quickie on the cambelt front -

On some cars, if the cambelt snaps, the engine is fine because the valves clear the pistons even when the crank is turning. i assume this is not the case on a scooby engine, and the valves will foul the pistons if the belt goes?

Its not so much the pistons that are the problem. The valves will meet in the middle and smash into eachother... Nasty!

Forget e-bay, ring round local factors, it will probably be the same price, decent quality and available today.

You need to loosen the adjuster bolts, but it's pretty straight forward.

I did mine a few weeks ago.
