Default Anyone had a sports cat fail?

Been running my RCM sports cat for 4 years now with no issues.

Noticed today getting out of the car is smelling like "Eggy" (No not like you Ed) and never had that before.

Just prior to that was getting a almost metalic smell coming into the cabin.

Never had a cat die before some not sure but only thing I can think of?

Any ideas?

Steve

Do you know anyone who works in a garage? You could stick it on a 4 gas to have a look at what the readings are, otherwise I think if you get cat failure on post 2001 car it should throw a code for cat efficiency above threshold. P0420 iirc

Hi mate,

I know code PO420 would show but I am unable to read this now as I have a Simtek. Bugger.

I don't know anyone with a garage to check Co2 but can tap a MOT centre I think.

Fingers crossed it's not but will see.

Cheers for the reply fella.

lol im glad you put that in brackets :P

i'm not sure an eggy smell relates to cat failing, but just a thought as this happened to me, look under the car and make sure there no plastic asda bag stuck on the exhaust burning/melting away! that caused a smell for a few weeks on mine before i managed to get it all off.

p0420 will put the check engine light on, if you cant get to an mot center the other option is a local mapper or someone with cable and laptop.

Cheers guys.

Drove it home last night and today and was fine. Even swithed the anti lag to see if anything would trigger it.

Don't want to count chickens yet but the RCM Sports Cat still lives!!!!
