do they learn new parts
Morning, right is it true that when u do a full ecu reset it has to learn all over again the cars fuel and air paramaters, if so why when a full de-cat is fitted do people say you need a remap @ how ever much they are,
i have a Z4 ecu will it learn the change of the system or not

No, the things the car learns/can self correct are things like:
Idle speed control
Limited changes to Idle and cruise AFR - based on a working oxygen sensor.
Limited changes in ignition timing due to knock events
The car is not able to self-correct open loop AFR. which is also where you are most likely to cause damage if running with incorrect AFRs.

Hmmm ok an easy way to explain this is.....
You have the alphabet, it goes from a-z, your ecu uses between e-h as its parameters, so on a daily basis it probably uses f-g with the e and h being the extremes of its map.
You replace a part and that now causes the car to run outside e-h, so its running d-i, now it can only correct between e-h, if your running d-i it cannot correct that and normally it goes bang, hence why you remap to suit the d-i parameters.
Will it learn? only its original parameters, as above if it exceeds those parameters....
