160mph Classic

160mph Classic
Anyone have any experience of how much power is needed in the real world for a genuine (not speedo reading) 160mph? In a Classic.
I know we don't own top speed cars and for most of us its a pointless figure chasing excersise, call it bragging rights, but there's an itch there and you all understand because youre on Scoobynet.
So apology over... my car is approaching 160K miles and still running very well with hybrid turbo and supporting mods. I think acheiving a real 160mph would be a crowning moment for a car I really enjoy, a little story to pass on to the Grand kids as they'll be charging batteries.
I know its easily possible with some more £ and time, but I don't want to do much more, would rather save up for another project. So what bhp do you actually need to get 160mph.
Oh and bouncing off the 7800rpm limiter with 500bhp doesn't help me
Cheers

Around the 280bhp mark, it may just take some time to get there and i wouldnt want to do it for too long or with a top mount (unless suitable mods have been applied )

Apparantly the classic type r can reach 155 mph, never got that fast myself, 140 mph and I got scared, felt like there was still more to go though
I'd be intrested to hear the top speed some people have reached in theirs ?

Search for MLR 30 - 130 on here. Event being held at RAF Marham in March for seeing how fast you can accelerate from 30 - 130mph, but also you can see what VMAX you can achieve within in 1 mile, with a safe distance to slow down.

Indicated 155 in a 315bhp Type R v5, it ran out of revs and it didn`t stay there for long, Current one has never seen above indicated 150, mainley because i`ve never been at a venue where it was achievable. Back to Germany this year, see what it does on an autobahn with a FMIC too.

First it will depend on how much distance you have to reach top speed.
Then it will depend on tyre/wheel size and gearing.
Also whether you have a speed limitter.
At Elvington I was clocked in my 95 WRX at 176 mph and guess it was well under 400 bhp at the time and in the 97 STi wagon at 168 mph a long way before the timing trap and that was around 360 bhp at that time. Just keeping it close to the red line which I do not like doing on these cars.
Both cars have far higher top speeds now because of other mods and gearing changes.
