Default what diff oil for 2005 uk sti?

just putting together a shopping list at Opie for the next service and usually use subaru oil, thought while i was at it i'd get some from there but not sure what i need? it doesn't need to be anything track orientated or need changing every 5 mins, just a good like for like

also, bit of an odd one but Opie seem to recommend 10-50 oil in their service packs but i've always used 5-40? has there been a change of recomended spec?

cheers,
Paul

i'm confusing myself now, is diff oil and transmission oil the same stuff? and how much do i need to do both? lol, you can tell i've gone off cars a bit. forgotten the very little bit i did know

Hi

I'll be honest with you, the guy who programmed the service packs into the system is a programmer rather than car person, he made a few mistakes and he's left now. Unfortunately he programmed it in an awkward way (I was told so by another programmer, means nothing to me) and the new programmers are trying to work out how to unravel the earlier work and correct it. So, as it stands, ignore the look up guide for Imprezas (it's okay for most things though).

Here's what i'd suggest as top end options

Engine (5L)
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60122-gu...-oil-5w40.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60219-mi...ngine-oil.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1146-sil...e-engines.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1002-red...oil-5w-40.aspx

Gearbox (3.5L)

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-744-cast...-gear-oil.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1017-red...ited-slip.aspx

Differential (0.8)L

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60230-mi...ssion-oil.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1016-red...5w-90-gl5.aspx

Brake Fluid (Approx 1L)
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-894-motu...ake-fluid.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-742-cast...ake-fluid.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-862-silk...ake-fluid.aspx

Power Steering

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1040-red...ing-fluid.aspx

If you want cheaper alternatives, go for the Motul X-Cess 5w-40 or Gulf Competition (as it's on offer at £30) in the engine, Castrol Syntrax in the gearbox and Fuchs Sintopoin in the diff.

Cheers

Tim
