Default converting a buyeye gx to turbo

hiya everyone ,

after owning a 1.6 and 2.0 sport classics and 3 turbod classic ive bought a bug eye gx in black i absolutley love it it bits, i had to sell my previous wrx due to loosing my job not long ago,

im now in new employment and love this gx that much im thinking about turboing this one using a early wrx as a donor car and basicallly swapping everything over needed, i no from one of my previous turbos that the bug eye engine goes straight in a classic as one of mine had a replacement engine at some point which came from a 2001 bug.

I am capable to do the majority of this work myself but before i dive too far into it has anyone one this before ???? i know from a previous life that putting redtops in corsas etc is relatively easy concerning the wiring looms and thats my major worry with this coversion do imprezas have a detactable front harness on is it a splicing job while a can use a spanner pretty welll am p1ss poor with electrics.

obviously ill be changing the diff g/box shafts brakes etc i suppose im really looking for a bit advice from anyone whos either done this before or used things such as the diff brakes etc from a classic on a bug eye does everything bolt up the same ?? cos im told there basiically the same car underneath

if anyone could point me in the right direction that lll be great and give me a great spring project. i know people may say just buy a wrx but id rather do it this way cheers in advance

Insurance will be the killer fella, you cant insure it as a gx and it isnt a wrx.

Default I did few years back

As from my experience whan i was 17, yes it can be done. I Had a 2001 Sport Special classic and fitted a 1999 turbo 2000 lump along with dash loom and ecu. Fired up as soon as i done the swap.

P.s Just make sure both cars are same model and rough same spec.

Hello mate, Ive got a classic sub, it started life as a gl but then it had a full sit conversion done to it. I brought a donor car and swapped all the parts over which where needed, this was alot of parts. Engine, brakes, body panels etc. Personally it's a goood route to go to and from experience you will have fun doing it. Only reason I done this was because I'm only 21 and can't afford to insure the real thing.

But then again for a guy like you insurance isn't the objection as you mentioned you had traders insurance. You will learn alot and also great fun. I'm
Not sure on the wiring but if you could do a research and find out then it should be a go ahead

So you had the funds to buy a donor car but not enough to insure it?

- no wonder my insurance is so high! If you want the car, you pay the insurance for it... not to fraud the insurance companies.

your traders policy will not be worth the paper its written on if you have not declared the mods. read the small print. A lot of these policies are closing these loopholes especially if you are under 30 years old.

Its not worth the effort, the shell is about the only thing you wont be changing, the gx gearbox wont take the power of a turbo, the brakes aint up to it etc, its too much hassle for no real gain for what you would buy a decent wrx for.
The wrx donor car..... old worn out parts, if you want to do it then go look around the scrap yards, the car itself will be hard to sell at the end of it, that I can promise you as people dont want them.
