Default VF28 or TD05

I have a 1999 V5 STI Wagon and up till now I assumed I had a TD05 16g, not sure why I assumed that

After reading various threads on here I'm not sure what's standard on this model. would it say on the turbo?

Any help would be great

it should be on the turbo it will either be a vf22, 23, 24, 28 or 29. there is a flat square piece on the turbo with all the number on.

vf28 is standard on your car and v6 models had the vf29.

VF28 is std fit on a v.5 and v.6 STi.

Good for 330bhp when mapped to its max - similar to a TD05 16g (330-350).

But I believe the VF28 is roller bearing (unlike the regular thrust tyoe of the 16g), so 28 is a bit livelier.

VF28 on MY99/00 v.5/6 STi

VF29 on MY99/00 WRX

VF28 a tad 'bigger' than 29 (not sure if it's the compressor wheel or exhaust housing), but ultimately similar performing turbos.

A 1999 UK should have a TD04L (as should a MY97 thru MY00).

I simply thought the MY99/00 followed the same philosophy as the MY97/98 i.e. VF24 for WRX; VF23 for STi, I believe. But accept that could be wrong, of course.

But ultimately I don't have any literature to hand to know for sure, one way or the other.

I appreciate that Banny but i wasn't refering to a wrx, only the sti. Unless the early v6 cars still ran the vf28 because all v6 cars i know of have had the vf29
