Default Question Re. Oil Changes for those who track their cars!

Hi all,

Just wondering how often you guys who track your scoobies change the oil?

is it compulsory before and after a trackday regardless of milage?

or do you run off a certain amount of milage such as every 1k miles?

Cheers

Eddy

if i am doing a proper track day such as cadwell where its getting hammered all day, then i change it before i go and when i get home.if i,m doing something like sprints at elvington which are normally only between 35-55 seconds per outing then i change before i go and then do the regular oil change approx 2-5 to 3000miles.unless another track day comes before.

It's down to the quality of the oil. A semi-synthetic won't last long at all. A mid range synthetic is probably done after one good track session, but a proper top end synthetic is fine for at least 10 solid hours of track use. We supplied oil to two cars in the Britcar 24hr, one used Gulf Competition 10w-40 and that was fine when the ECU died after about 12 hours. The other car was using Fuchs Pro S 10w-50 and that lasted the full 24 hours.

Cheers

Tim

it might not have blown up yet, but how much life are you taking from your motor just for the sake of an oil change.

+1

£50 for a change of decent oil or £4k for a new engine at some point sooner than it needs to be

Using a 10w-60 in an Impreza is no good though, it's too thick. 10w-50 is a much better choice.

Sounds like its lost in translation, perhaps thats what the engine builder recommends. Not sure what he would do to the engine to make it need to run on SAE60.

Cheers
