I think you will find, your EGT sensor has been removed, NOT the lambda. Have you noticed a fall in mpg??

The symptoms do sound like the MAF is failing and if the error codes shows it then that would support it.

So if a maf is failing will it cause car to sometimes run ok and sometime not, most of the time its fine, its just the fault codes what worry me.

Yes, of course a failing Mass Air Flow sensor will cause running issues. As the ECU 'learns on the fly' and knows the MAF is on its way out, it will do all it can to compensate and allow the engine to run. But the day will come, it will either NOT run at all, or go BANG!

Now put down the doobie and change the MAF and the Lambda.

If you have NO lambda sensor, your car will not fuel properly, it will run rough, it will drink V-Power like it's free, it will fail the MOT emissions.

In short you NEED a lambda.

Check your downpipe and/or the drivers side header and i bet you see it with 3 wires coming from it.

I don't know any one that does NOT run a lambda.
