Default classic sti big end bearings

Abit new to the site and scooby scene so im in abit of a pickle.
Ive just fitted a sti redtop engine into my 94 wrx which was from a car that was crashed through a hedge.
There was only radiator and cosmetic damage.engine wad switched off straight after.
It had been sat for about a year until it was fitted in my car and started for me to find the big end bearings knocking. The car has never been driven while knocking.

What would be the chances of getting away with a new set of bearings?
Ive been told it would be easier finding a second hand ej20 short block to swap over
If so how much am i looking to for one

Any help would be appreciated.cheers

You need a rebuild. You cant use the old crankshaft, neither can the crank be reground.

Speak to David @ Api near Leamington Spa

Budget for a new oil pump and modine too.

Plus getting the engine THOROUGHLY cleaned to remove all traces of swarf and particles.

I dont know about subaru cranks but ive repaired 5 engines with big end failure and 4 got away with a good clean out new filter/oil and shells ,plus cleaning the crank journels with some wet/dry 1000 grade sprayed with wd40 followed up with metal polish ,there was no problems after with any of them,my sons put 15000 miles on his vw since his was done and it still sounds good although doing it by the book this shouldnt be done but we didnt have the book lol
