ive done a few timing belts in the past on twin cam vauxhalls and escorts and was wondering how hard is it to do on a scooby,do i need any tools to lock the cams as any one got any pics of the timing marks on a scoob and any advice on how to go about doing the change thanks.

Hi, when I done mine I borrowed the crank tool off a friend it's a locking tool round dish with pins protruding on a long bar, if it's the same as my 95 wrx you will need a big vice to push the belt tensioner back in and its held by a small allen key, cam timing marks were obvious on mine the marks if i remember correctly pointed at each other I think but once the cam pulleys are lined up TDC beware a couple of them will want to spin when you take the belt off I just used 2 mole grips and locked them together not to tight though my cam pulleys looked plastic but you can buy the proper locking tool for the job, overall its not that hard.

use the white lines on the belt itself ,line them up to the marks on the pulleys, it helps trust me ,it tells you where the slack has to be, ive done it without any locking tools

On standard cams, you can bring the cam pulleys onto their 'on lobe' timing marks and remove the belt without them spinning 'off cam'

As above, a belt with marked timing lines will make the job easier.
