Fuel gauge reads fine to half full, then doesn't move anymore.
Reads half full when full?.
Is this likely to be the fuel sender unit?
If it is, what sort of a job is it to replace.

Sounds possibly like the level sender in the tank is at fault, but what you could do is remove it from the tank and operate it and see if the guage moves ok. not a difficult job to be honest just look at the front rhside of the boot under the matt and you will see and inspection panel and its all under there
