Default Sports cats

Hey Guys,

After finding out the car I'm buying (2002 UK STi) does not have the PPP fitted as first suspected, I'm now wondering what I'll need to get the car to 300-330. As far as I know it only has the Prodrive back box and everything else is standard.

So with regards to the exhaust system do I need;

a) Just a Prodrive or other sport cat down pipe

or

b) The sport cat and centre section???

Obviously I want to keep costs to the minimum so I'm guessing;

Walbro
Panel Filter
Re-Map

Plus what ever add ons required for the exhaust. Sound about right??

Thanks guys. I'm a bit confused (which isn't hard) about the bits required for the exhaust though??

Panel filter and a remap will probably see you near were you want to be. Best speaking to a mapper to identify the gains, although fitting a prodrive sports cat will leave you with a 2.5" system so not much of a gain in changing the centre I wouldn't think.

I see,

The plan was originally just to remap the PPP car and I was told I'd get between 320-330 by doing so. As things are it's just a standard STi with a Prodrive back box so I know I'll have to upgrade things to get to that figure of 320-330. What I don't want to do is bin the Prodrive back box, I'd rather try and purchase the other bits second hand from eBay or here to complete the Prodrive system. My problem is knowing exactly what to buy and how much to pay??

£150 for a second hand prodrive sports cat, £40 for a new green panel filter, £350 for an open source remap, £600 for an ecutek map. Labour for fitting the sports cat (approx 2-hours). £75 for a walbro(may not be needed), 1 hours labour for fitting.

Thanks mate

So do you need the centre section then, or just the short sports cat down pipe?

I would try and fit that and the pump at home I think, saves a bit of cash and lets the neighbours know how loud I can scream like a girl when I scrape my knuckles or bruise my nail

You need a sport cat down pipe and a decat mid section. This is the configuration in the STi PPP. As on the other thread get a Prodrive or Milltek cat, some others are not the best for MOT emissions

Thanks mate,

I'll start looking in the classifieds after I've collected the car. No point buying anything until I know 100% what's fitted on the car.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Subaru-Impreza...#ht_500wt_1156

Although it looks like a catted centre to me.

Be warned, the cat is a pig of a job, make sure you get a replacement set of nuts and bolts for the turbo end - I've done 2 now

Can it be done on the drive? I've got a set of axle stands I can utilize, just don't want to start it and get stuck. Although it will be a while yet anyway.

Yes it can, but ensure you leave a full day to allow for seized/stripped nuts and bolts. Did my second one in about 2.5 hours, but both on axle stands
