Default MAF Sensor 2002 Forester XT

Thought I'd start a new thread even though Ive had help already from an existing topic..Went to have the OBD history read today at garage and had the MAF sensor come up in the history of the OBD. While motorway driving a couple of weeks ago I had the light come on for a few hours then go off again. This happend around three or four times over the period of a week.
The only noticable performance issue was when dropping the pedal quite hard to join up with a new autobahn in 4th at around 4000rpm, there was a slight stutter , then gone a agin.. And a little eratic in the tick over between cold and warm when the weather is cold, but no stalling..I continued driving as I am aborad at the moment and tried it again but being more gradual with the gas pedal, and it was fine..
As the MAF sensor has shown up as a fault should I buy a new one ( expensive ), or wait and see if it continues... Lots of varying thoughts on that on the forum..I dont want to damage anything and the car is a running fine, but i hope to spend a lot of time in the Alps this winter and dont want to run into any probs...cheers all.....

Get it looked at by a scoob specialist. Yes you could change the maf, but i think ive heard of it throwin the maf code and its not the maf but something related to the maf. But if the light is coming on and off it could be the maf starting to go, best to have it checked by someone who knows these cars.
