What device/software did you use to generate that particular error, and what model year car are we talking about?

If you've got the right error, then at some point in the past your immobiliser control unit (the factor fit, transponder based one, not the importer fit, Sigma alarm) has bugged out. If you can't start the car now (or it fires and immediately dies with the check engine light and key symbol flashing) then this will be the reason.

and
code 12 Starter Signal
You'll usually see that one if you've had to bump start the car due to a flat battery or duff starter motor. It's set when the ECU detects engine rotation without the key being turned to the start position.
