Default How to solve bad boost surge in 5th gear on full throttle?

As title, running a td05 20g at 1.5bar only in 5th gear on full throttle getting very bad boost surge as boost comes in hard (high pitch air pressure noise chattering from turbo area) how to over come this? Can drive through it if slowly accelerate.

Is it because too much air is being drawn through filter causing stalling of turbo? As not too sure.

Used to be fine, but only thing can remember changing since this happened was made the air intake from filter to turbo as free flowing as possible.

All help appreciated!

Simplest solution is to restrict the turbo inlet, to cure this.

Alternatively, if you've got vernier cam pulleys, you could experiment with inlet cam timing

Hi, like you have said above it is caused by running a larger intake pipe. I was told to stick with oem size hoses to avoid this problem. If you restrict it slightly you should be able to work it out.

Would the restrictions restrict the power though?

This sounds like fuel cut to me (reaching the limits of the ECU;s fuel map) due to over boosting possibly due to dense air........completely different to what the OP has posted, Fiestaboy as usual has hit the nail on the head.

i have the same problem . the maf was naff, replaced it and now it works. the ecu has no idea what air /fuel ratio to do so it holds back to save the engine going boom.
