Default So I just bought a bargain 3 inch Cobra turbo back system

Should be here Monday at the latest, anyone know what I should be expecting on a fairly otherwise standard bugeye engine (perrin intake and green cotton panel filter) combined with a classic uppipe I have sat here too? noise, performance?
I think earlier spool should be a cert, anything else I need to know about regarding cels etc? I know the td04 doesnt tend to overboost as much as a td05 etc.
Angled too, which is nice!

I would be expecting a pair of ear plugs with it, weren't any in the box?

i had the a de-cat from turbo back, KnN pannel filter and samco i/c pipes, never noticed too much of a difference before a remap, but i wasnt really driving it hard as i heard that a required a remap pretty soon after due to the decat ect, but once i got it wow what a difference it made, totally brilliant. well done MR A Forrest

My94wrx, are we talking illegal type noise? I have a mongoose rear box at the moment and it is too quiet, maybe a slight bit of bass, but certainly not enough growl when on the move. Then again, I dont want the neighbours complaining, I dont tend to drive too late at night nor too early in the morning, I wouldnt want windows shaking either

Fred, I think a remap will be my xmas pressie or shortly after anyway.

A single silencer on a 3 inch stainless system with no cat's is certainly going to be loud but who knows if it's stupidly loud, I certainly couldn't do my 250 miles a week with one - I'd be permanently deaf.

Best try it and get a vid of it I like the big noise until it comes with living with it on a daily basis.

I drive 1.4 miles to work daily and to the golf club similar distance on a sat/dunday so big miles arnt a problem, my bug has done 2-2.5k since buying it this time last year!
I will get a vid as soon as its done too, no fear on that one. I did look up youtube for cobra full systems and one blue one taking off away from the camera sounds nice and beefy but not motorbike loud, which suits me!

I have a genome as only silencer but still have std downpipe cat and that is loud enough, don't think I could live with that tbh, but everyone has their own threshold when it becomes to loud.

Yea Daz, I know I dont want it unbearable, I only do very very occasional 20+ mile trips so if it is too loud, I think I'll get something put into the middle somewhere, gotta get it fitted first though!

Another question, what sort of money would you expet to pay for this full cobra system, around a year old in the condition shown in my pic?

i used to have a magnex myself and went the 3inch all the way decat and 4.5inch backbox. All i can say is it probably puts blitz spec r's to shame. My house vibrates when it starts in the morning if you put your head about 1metre away from the backbox you get the "ringing in the ear permanent damage" sound.........oh and when it idles you feel flat 4 thumping in your bones.

I have now a baffle/bung thing in and its much better. Comes out at the weekends tho : )

Try it first, then if its too loud, stick a bung in it or change.

I have a Revolution 3'' system, with one silencer, and a 4'' exit, and its not too loud at all. In my experience its abouyt the effcitveness of the rear silencer- had a jap race pipe on and MR2 turbo once- took it off as gave me a headache after 10 mins of driving!

Hey, I have this same system on my car it sounds awesome. I've just got a remap done on Sunday and the car goes like stink aswel. Best to get the remap sooner rather than later and mine was overboosting so just take it easy when it goes on.

I bought my bung 30 minutes after i had my afterburner vortex fitted to my old car . It seemed so loud when going from a prodrive backbox.

Well I don't want to worry you but I have a H&S 3" downpipe mated to a Cobra 3" centre & rear, it's makes a really great sound but it's very, very loud. My mate has an afterburner vortex (turbo back, no cats) on his new age and it's louder than that and my centre section is resonated!!!

To be honest when I first got it it was far too loud for my liking because it's really loud and drones in the car, particularly on the motorway, you can actually feel pressure in your ears from the noise around 3000rpm on the motorway, hence I now have a bung for any long motorway journeys.

I have got more used to it now though and so round town and back and forth to work I can put up with it but deffo need the bung for any long motorway stints or for when the missus is in it

Cheers Bgood, if it is boomy on the motorway, I can get a bung though to be honest I really dont do big mileage in it at all. mostly suburban with the odd cross country mile or two.

I paid £150 for the whole system, bargain?

have you got replacement studs & a new gasket for the downpipe to turbo fitting?

studs prone to shearing and gasket should just be replaced anyway when off
