Default Bleeding System - 02 Wrx Bugeye

Hi, my 2002 WRX saloon started this morning to overheat, when idling it would creep up, and the hot air wouldnt come on instantaniously, driving to my work the temperature would then go down to normal level and stay there, the rise in temperature isnt quick, it takes a few minutes,

The expansion tank the other day was empty so i topped up per the book, but I feel it may have a air lock?

So how do i bleed the system?

Or does anyone think its more sinister then that?

sounds like a circulation problem such as airlock, thermostat or waterpump.
