Default ECU UPDATE

after advice from midnight,i removed ecu to see if my95 import was chipped as it boosts 1.2,on further investigation i fount it runs a z4 ecu i looked at removing the cover but couldnt undo any of the screws but they all looked like they hadnt been touched before,so im still in the dark as to why car runs that boost as there is no manaul or electronic boost controller.later on i might invest in some decent screwdrivers and try again.as usaul any advise welcome.

the z4 does run 12.7psi but trying guess what's inside your ecu is like guessing the winning lottery numbers!

well 12.7 psi is not anywhere near 1.2 bar. 1 bar = 14.5 psi. you do the maths, i am hungover.

thing is if the screws are hard tto undo could it be a fact that its never been took apart before as when i removed the kick plate that covers ecu,the ecu still had the clear plastic protector round it,so that what else makes me think it hasnt been messed with but will take it out again one evening this week and try and take the ecu apart.

its easy to put the plastic protector back! you have to make sure you use the exact right size screw driver.

Hi mate that does sound like it might have a chip in , my mates 95 wrx last week was boosting over 1.0 bar last week on a Z4 ecu . So I removed the ecu and opened it up , on closer examination there was a chip from Lithuania in the ecu and a diode had been split and some wire attached to it ( I presume this was wired to a switch). I removed the chip and soldered the diode, and refitted the ecu. The car now boosts to 0.9 bar peak and settles at a steady 0.8 bar
Regarding getting the screws out of the ecu a cheap mini screwdriver set will do it.
