Question Speedo Issue

Hi all,

I've got a 1998 type r import and am having problems with my speedo it started out as just not reading take off speed ie about 10mph but then it would read normally then it went to randomly dancing around even when not moving ie sat on drive with the engine on, and now its not working at all

Does anyone one have any idea on the matter or if a similar issue has happened to them...

Hi does the car drive any differently ,with the speedo not working, ie boost as per normal ?. Also have you tried connecting the 2 black wires under the dash to see if a fault code flashes up ?.

Everything you have described points to an electrical problem in the instrument pack (i.e. the dashboard), although if your car has a speedo delimiter/converter fitted, I would look at the connections on that/those in the first instance, or possibly deinstall it/them to see if the symptoms subside.

Has your check engine light come on at all btw?

Engine check light has not come on and the car drives normally but have not pushed it so dont know if its back on the 112mph limit or full power. Will prob pull out the clocks tomorrow to see if anything is wrong behind there..

I know this is an old thread but i have been having a similar issue on a v3 sti

the speedo works fine but the electrical output to the ecu has an issue i believe

does anybody have a wiring diagram for v3 clocks or knows the likely cause of the fault and what and where to resolder or rewire

Pin 3 on B135 pretty sure iirc its purple and white. Check continuity back to the clocks I take it your cable driven from the box to the clocks.
