Question Bad paint, or bad luck?

Came out to the car the other morning, and noticed a real bad chip/flake on the driver side front right wheel arch

Closer inspection, and there were 3-4 'down to the metal' chips in the arch that faces the tyre, but this one was on the outer edge, and comes up the front face of the arch. It is approx the size of a 5p/1p piece so quite large.

Bad luck, or badly bonded paint? I am not sure what the dark area is bottom left in the metal. It is on a 500 mile sti hatch :

Anyone have stone chips that expose that much metal? I haven't seen it happen on any of the other scoobs I have had.

Richie.

I'd say that was down to the paint not bonding to the surface as a stone that would make a chip that size would surely have left a dent in the panel as well.

yeah, the metal is not dented in any way. I am guessing the dark metal on the left of the chip is where a stone hit it.

I want to cover it up to stop it rusting, but the dealer wants it left so it can be examined. Perhaps i'll slap some wax or something on it for now.

Take it back to the dealer to sort it..
Dont repair it yourself otherwise your corrosion warranty may become exempt.
