Any pics of said phenomenon?
Is it an aftermarket gauge?

Oil temperature readout on the dash? What gauge, specifically, are you talking about?

For what it's worth, newage Imprezas aren't fitted with an oil temp gauge as standard, but they do have an outside temperature gauge. Are you sure you aren't reading that one and getting a bit confused as to its purpose?

If it is a proper oil temp gauge, then no, 12 celsius is nowhere near normal, assuming the car is fully warmed up.

Where does it say oil temperature? It's always possible that a previous owner might have repurposed the display somehow, but the number you're quoting clearly sounds much more like an external air temp than oil.

As far as I was aware the Bugeyes only showed the external Temp, not the oil temp... 12 degrees is certainly more indicative of the outside temp!

The oil defo wouldn't be at 12degrees warm, more like 85 degrees

This is a new one for the archives, to go alongside the "Why won't my sidelights go off?", and the " Why doesn't my boot open from inside any more?" Questions.

I suppose that might explain the fuel gauge...
