sounds like timing to me have you had the belt changed recently or the lambda can cause a slight miss like feeling when accelerating

I dont want your money, but I would agree with Scoobyboy, if you think it is firing whilst the inlet is open it must be a timing problem.

If you have had a timing belt recently it might be slightly out due to that!!!

You could check the timing using a strobe, the timing marks are on the front of the engine next to the crankshaft pulley.

Go through each thing, one at a time with the least expensive first!

Hope you get it sorted soon, MD.

MD i have a timing light but wasnt sure if i could use it as the leads use coil packs and might not have enough current in them to activate the strobe, i will try this morning and see if it does work, if so i can check the timing and hopefully find the fault!!!
As for the timing belt, it hasnt been changed recently BUT on other cars i have owned - if the tensioner is loose the belt can sometimes jump a tooth???????
MD if you could let me know about the use of the timing light before i start it would be much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks

If you can hear it throught the inlet, it sounds like the cambelt has jumped a tooth. Check it out soon in case you do any damage.
