if you get a light there is a number on the gearbox itself u can see it from the right hand side of the intercooler i have a 97 catalunya uk (basicly a turbo 2000) and my code is TY752VN5BA mine is currently being refurbished but i was told by a subaru garage that you have to watch what box you get as the ratio's are different on imports and such and they have to match the ratio on the diff im not a 100% sure but im sure someone with proper knowledge will come along and help you out.

i dont know whats wrong with your box but i was told to get mine refurbished rather than buy new or 2nd hand as new is far too expensive (well for me) 2nd hand has no guarentee's (well not unless you know the person) and atleast with a refurb it will have a warranty for a while and it worked out cheaper for me

Yes mate its very important to make sure you get the right box. The diff ratios are diff, if you get the wrong one youll soon know..Youll get a weird vibration through the car as you accelerate and it will trash the new box. Get some prof advice before you buy if your not sure...Dont listen to people selling reconditined boxes saying this will do and that will do cos they prob just want a sale and dont really know..trust me i learnt the hard way.good luck.
