Default Q8 Excel 5W-40 any good??

Right have been given a brand new 5 litre bottle of Q8 Excel 5W-40.
Will be doing an oil change tomorrow amongst other things, as I`ve had 10w-40 in there to flush out the engine, as its had a replacement engine.
And with the slight issues I`ve had think it could benefit from a change.

The engine is a EJ20 Fully forged semi closed deck, which will have to do a fair bit of cold starts, and then driven "enthusiastically" when sorted.

Will this oil be of use to me, or is there a better oil viscosity and brand for me to use. Assuming that its not gonna get ragged to near death, but at the moment she is very tappety.

Especially with the colder weather approaching, that oil should be fine. Maybe change to a 10/50 as the warmer weather approaches, next year.

Not really! As welshy said, 10/50 is a suitable oil for your forged engine but as you have the 5/40 anyway, it's worth using over the winter months.

I use Mobil Synt S 5w40, I have always thought that a 50 oil would be required in higher temperature climates.

Don't forget Ty that my car has space shuttle mileage so it needs a heavier viscosity

If you've got the 5w-40 already, and with winter coming, it will be okay to use, but it may be a bit rattly when cold and use a drop due to the larger tolerances in forged engines.
