Default YOUR 'SAFE' HAWKEYE WRX BHP PLEASE?

Hi all,

was looking at trading the wrx for a sti, but now thinking ill keep the wrx at take it to a reasonably safe figure most people go to around 350 ish anyone gone anymore safely ? the cars on 18k always warmed and cooled properly (even when the mrs starts at 5.00am) so should be ok

thanks.

Its not the BHP thats the problem but the torque. The WRX 5 speed box is no-where near as strong as the STI. I know one that let go but that was putting out 380lb/ft torque. Mines 350 and no probs so far

pop a sti box in her 500bhp when my little wrx is back

its all down to how you drive the car, take care of it and you will be fine with 350. RCM planned on running 400 on my box with care.

At 400 torque it will just be a matter of when it breaks.

Its not just as simple as popping an sti box into it. There is a shed load of stuff to be done like diffs, props etc. It can certainly be done but its expensive prob 2k +.

The other thing that would worry me is that you would need to be very careful that it was a good STi box in the first place and not one thats knackered

I would also say change the car, I almost did what you are thinking but changed my mind, A lot less hassle to tune the sti, also I found insurance cheaper for a remapped sti over a wrx with turbo change. Not really noticed any difference in fuel consumption either which was the original reason I bought a wrx.

I've been runing my WRX at 340/400 for the last 20,000 miles
with no problems
and thats with some v/hard driving
i can also get over 400 mpg out of a tank staying around the speed limted
the roads i drive and how i drive suit 5 speed better than 6 speed
and if you get a sti you will still need remap/wheels/brakes/coilovers/exhast/short-shift-ect ect
so you will still need to spend to get the car that suits you
and i think that 400ft/lbs is all you need for a good road car ( i don't do track days)

had they been serviced correctly?
Warmed up etc
I also have prolong in my gear box
But May be its down to driving style?
Some people can feel more mechanically what the car is doing
