Default P1 Fog Lights... changing the bulbs

Can you change the P1 Fog Light bulbs to a different type of bulb?

As my headlights are the xenon bulbs and have like a blue'ish tinge to them, but the fog lights are just normal... can you get xenon bulbs for the fog lights?

Cheers, Mark

I'd imagine you can, as they are driving lights, rather than fogs. There should be a suitable HID bulb for them, although you'll need another HID kit with the ballasts.

Depends on the bulb. Take one out and identify it. It will be either H1, H2,or H3.

An H1 is about 40mm long with a metal stem supporting a small glass ampoule with the filament in it. It has one terminal on the back and the bulb-holder plate is circular with a single straight edge across about 1/3 of it.

An H2 has no bulb holder plate, as such, just double sided terminals, is mostly glass and under 15mm long.

An H3 is easily identified as it has a flying lead with the terminal on the end.

H1 and H3 are available in blue-ish tinge, so called "Xenon" bulbs, uprated, and higher wattage.

H2 are available in higher wattage, but I'd stear clear. There are very good reasons

H1 CAN be replaced with a true Xenon HID bulb, but at a cost.........£50+ a pair.

What are you trying to achieve?

Each to their own and all that, but, from reading your post you want the bulbs when lit to look the same as the headlight bulbs, i.e a blueish.
Nobody will see them and think any worse of you if they do see them, how often do you need to use fog lights? Once a year for maybe a few minutes, if ever.

At the minute they're not being used at all as one of the wires on the back of one of the fogs got sliced when fitting the front mount, and its too close to the back of the light to strip the wire and tape up, so will need fully replacing.

So while i'm on with that I thought i'd try and match the bulbs to the headlights if it was possible, I know what you're getting at Trogg, but i'm not one for fogs when its not foggy... but I am abit of a perfectionist and like things to match.

My headlights arent HID, they're just them xenon bulbs.

Cheers Alcazar, i'll take a peek tonight

I was under the impression they weren't fogs anyway, just driving lights.
Can anyone confirm?

Depends on a couple of things, 1 being the beam pattern the other being how you turn them on.

If they come on with the main beams then driving lights, if the have their iwn switch and come on with side or dips, then fog lights.

Yes ,the lights on a P1 are driving lights ,which mean they come on with the main beam, subaru used these as opposed to the fog lamps on the 2000 turbo. Quite expensive if you uprated the driving lamps to gas discharge ,which is why subaru supplied removable covers for them.
